Brian J. Guerriero, Performance Counselor

Professional Focus

I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor with Supervisory Endorsement (LPCC-S) specializing in the mental performance and well-being of athletes, coaches, and other high performers. My work integrates clinical counseling with applied sport psychology to help individuals strengthen their mindset, manage pressure, and perform with confidence and clarity — both in competition and in life.

I’m passionate about helping people pursue excellence without losing sight of balance, purpose, and personal growth.

Background & Experience

I hold a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and a Master of Education in Kinesiology (spec. in Applied Sport Psychology) from Bowling Green State University.

Since gaining clinical licensure, I’ve worked in a range of settings including community mental health, education, juvenile justice, and sport performance consulting. These diverse experiences have shaped my understanding of how motivation, resilience, and identity intersect across performance and well-being.

In addition to my clinical and performance work, I provide supervision and consultation for other counselors and mental performance professionals.

Approach & Philosophy

My counseling and consultation style is collaborative, evidence-informed, and strengths-based. I draw heavily from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Positive Psychology, and Performance Psychology principles in order to tailor each session to fit the individual’s performance environment and personal goals.

Whether we’re addressing competitive stress, recovering from injury, improving focus, or exploring leadership and motivation, my goal is to help each client develop practical tools for sustainable performance and mental wellness.

Areas of Focus

  • Performance and mental skills training for athletes and coaches
  • Confidence and focus development
  • Performance anxiety and stress management
  • Injury recovery and resilience
  • Leadership and communication for coaches
  • Integrating well-being and performance in high-demand roles

Current Practice

I provide in-person performance counseling in Northwest Ohio. I also provide performance consultation virtually throughout the Great Lakes region.

While I am not currently accepting new general counseling clients, I continue to work with athletes, coaches, and performers on performance-related goals and offer consultation and supervision to other professionals in the field.

Please check back for updates on availability for general counseling or contact me to discuss performance collaboration opportunities.
